Seoul is mountains with a city poured between them. Granite peaks rise straight out of the districts, the Han runs wide through the middle, and palace roofs in green and red sit at the foot of towers of glass. It is a city of hard contrasts and it photographs at night better than almost anywhere, all neon and reflected light on the river. The brighter pieces suit it, and so do the quiet ones when the subject is a gate or a roofline rather than a skyline.
