Himeji is the castle, a white keep on a stone base with roofs stepping up in tiers and gables curving at the ends. It survived when most did not, so it is the real thing rather than a reconstruction, and the white plaster is why it is named for a heron. Cherry trees fill the grounds for a fortnight each spring. A maze of gates was built into the approach to slow an attacker down. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
