Vilnius is baroque in a way that feels domestic rather than grand. Church after church in white and pale yellow, a hill with a red brick tower on it, courtyards opening off courtyards, and a river bending round the old town. Snow sits on it for a good part of the year and suits it. One quarter declared itself an independent republic with a constitution nailed to a wall, which tells you the mood of the place. The work here keeps the spires and the tiled roofs and comes as prints, ornaments and the things that come out in winter.
