Shanghai is two waterfronts facing each other. Colonial stone banks and clock towers along one bank, a skyline of glass and steel on the other that was farmland within living memory, and the river brown and busy between them. Behind both, lanes of brick houses with washing strung across them. A garden in the old town has been there since the ming dynasty. It is a city of contrast and the pieces here play on it, coming as prints, ornaments and the smaller things.
