Petra is carved into a canyon wall, which is why the approach matters as much as the arrival: a long narrow gorge that opens suddenly onto a facade cut from rose coloured rock. The stone is banded pink, red and gold and the colour shifts as the sun moves across it. Tombs and steps continue for a long way beyond the famous front. It was carved by a people who grew rich controlling the incense road. The pieces here work from that rose stone and come as prints, ornaments and more.
