Luxor is temples on both banks of the Nile. Columns in avenues still standing with their painted ceilings in fragments, sphinxes along a processional way, tombs cut into a dry valley on the west bank, and feluccas on the water between. The stone is honey coloured and the light is hard. The colour is sandstone and river green. Hot air balloons cross the west bank at dawn over the tombs. Half the ancient monuments in the world are said to be in this one place. Colossi sit in a field where the temple behind them has gone. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
