Paris is grey stone and zinc roofs, and it is far less colourful than people expect, which is exactly why it draws so well. The tower, the river, the long uniform facades with their iron balconies, and a sky that is overcast more often than not. Haussmann rebuilt most of it to one set of rules, so the city has a rhythm to it that shows up the moment you reduce it to line. The pieces here lean on that restraint: silhouette and one colour doing the work, with the detail kept for the ironwork.
