Leeds Castle stands on islands in a lake with swans on the water and parkland around it. Stone walls rising straight from the surface so the whole thing appears to float, a gatehouse and a bridge, and gardens laid out on the banks. It has been added to over centuries and shows it. A maze in the grounds leads to a grotto underneath it. It was owned by six medieval queens, which is where its nickname comes from. Black swans glide on the moat and have done for generations.
