Istanbul sits on two continents and never lets you forget it. Ferries cross the Bosphorus all day, gulls hang over the Golden Horn, and the skyline is domes and minarets stacked behind each other in the haze. The colour that runs through it is Iznik blue, the cobalt and turquoise of the tilework inside the mosques, which is why the Delft blue pieces suit it so completely.
