Delhi is several cities stacked on the same ground. Red sandstone forts and tombs from one era, wide colonial avenues and a dome from another, and a dense old quarter of lanes and wires that predates both. Marigolds, dust in the light, and the red of that sandstone going almost violet at the end of the day. An iron pillar in one courtyard has not rusted in over a thousand years. The Delhi work here takes the forts and the domes and puts them on a wall, a tree or under a cup.
