Valletta is honey limestone on a peninsula between two harbours, laid out in a grid by knights. Enclosed timber balconies painted green and red hanging off the fronts, steep stepped streets down to the water, bastion walls all round, and a sun that bleaches the stone almost white at midday. Two cannon are fired from the battery over the harbour each day at noon. A baroque theatre here is among the oldest still working in Europe. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
