Sapporo is a grid city on a northern island that takes winter seriously. Snow arrives by the metre and the festival carves it into buildings, a clock tower in white timber survives from the frontier days, beer has been brewed here a long time, and mountains rise immediately outside town. The colour is white, dark timber and evergreen. Ramen here comes with miso and butter and is a different thing entirely. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and winter things.
