Saitama, Japan.

Saitama sits just north of the capital and is mostly a commuter prefecture, but it has a bonsai village where growers have worked for a century, a plain of rice and vegetable fields, and mountains in the west with gorges and shrines in them. Long summer heat records are set here regularly, and a festival of floats runs through one of its towns each December. The bonsai growers moved out here after an earthquake destroyed their nurseries in the capital. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
