Phuket is limestone islands standing out of green water with the mainland jungle behind. Long beaches on the west side, an old town of Sino Portuguese shophouses in pastel with shuttered windows, and longtail boats with ribbons tied to their prows. The colour is jade water, white sand and those faded shopfronts. Vegetarian festival processions in autumn are not for the faint hearted. Rubber and tin built the shophouses before anyone came for the beaches. Limestone islands in the bay are reached by longtail in an hour. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and the smaller things.
