Phnom Penh sits where two rivers meet with a royal palace of gold and orange roofs behind a white wall on the waterfront. Stupas on a small hill in the middle of the city, french colonial shutters on the older blocks, and a riverside that fills at dusk. A silver pagoda inside the palace has a floor of solid silver tiles. The river here runs backwards for part of the year, which is a genuine phenomenon.
