Somewhere you have been

Nikko, Japan.

2 pieces

Nikko is a shrine complex in the mountains where the carving is gilded, painted and piled on without restraint, which is deliberate and unlike anywhere else in the country. Cedars line the approach in an avenue that runs for miles, waterfalls come off the plateau above, and the maples turn in autumn. The colour is gold leaf, vermilion and cedar green. A saying holds that you should not use the word splendid until you have seen it. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
