London is a grey city that keeps producing colour when you least expect it. Portland stone gone black with age, red buses and red phone boxes against it, plane trees in the squares, and the river turning the colour of tea at low tide. It is really a collection of villages that grew into each other, so it has no single skyline and no obvious centre, which makes the landmarks do the work: the clock tower, the bridge, the dome of St Paul's holding its ground among the glass. The London work here takes those and puts them on a wall, on a tree, or under a cup.
