Eguisheim is a village built in rings around a central castle, so the streets curve back on themselves. Timber framed houses painted apricot, rose and blue with flowers at every window, vineyards running right up to the edge of the walls, and storks nesting on the roofs. The colour is those painted frames. Wine is made in the cellars under the houses and sold at the door. The village is entered through a single gate and the lanes run in circles from it.
