Dresden was rebuilt from its own rubble and the seams are deliberately visible, dark old stone set among the new. A domed church on a square, a palace wall covered in a procession of rulers in tile, and the Elbe curving past the terrace above it. The colour is sandstone gone almost black with age. Porcelain from a nearby town has been made since Europe worked out how. A Christmas market here has run for nearly six centuries. The opera house was rebuilt exactly as it was, twice. The work here comes as prints, ornaments, coasters and the rest.
