Aarhus is a compact Danish city with a canal of bars through the middle, a museum topped by a circular walkway of coloured glass, and an old town of relocated timber framed houses arranged as a working street. Beech woods run down to the beach at the edge of town, and the university is built in yellow brick throughout. Vikings founded it and the layers under the streets show it.
