Verona is a Roman arena still in use, a river looping round the old town, and marble streets worn smooth and pink. Ochre and rose fronts, fortified bridges with swallowtail battlements, a hill of cypress above with a view back over the roofs, and a balcony people queue for. The colour is that pink marble and terracotta. Opera is staged in the arena in summer and the audience brings candles. Risotto here is made with the local red wine and comes out the colour of it. The arena is older than the Colosseum and in better repair. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
