Rochester sits on a river that drops over three waterfalls inside the city, one of them right beside the downtown streets, which almost nowhere else can claim. Photography was invented into an industry here, a canal runs along the southern edge, lilacs fill a park each May for a festival, and lake effect snow comes off the water through the winter.
