Rhode Island is coast, sailing and colonial timber. Clapboard houses in white and grey, a bay full of masts, mansions along a cliff walk, lighthouses on the points, and autumn colour running right down to the shore. The colour is white timber, bay blue and leaf red. It is the smallest state and has the longest official name. Sailing races here have been international events for over a century.
