Providence is colonial timber houses on a hill above a river, with a marble capitol dome and a mile of brick university buildings. Braziers are lit on the water in the warmer months, and the streets keep their old names and their old grades. The colour is white clapboard, brick and river dark. A mile of the river was uncovered after being paved over for decades. The art school here has shaped a good deal of American design. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
