Oaxaca, Mexico.
2 pieces
Oaxaca is a valley city of low colonial buildings painted in strong colour, with green stone churches and a market that takes up several streets. Mole is made here in seven recognised varieties and every family disputes the count. Mezcal comes from the agave on the hills around, ruins sit on a flattened hilltop above the town, and the day of the dead is observed with more seriousness and more marigolds than almost anywhere. The colour is green stone, painted plaster and marigold. The pieces here come as prints, ornaments and more.
