Hobart is a harbour under a mountain, with sandstone warehouses along the docks and a summit that gets snow while the town below is warm. Fishing boats, a colonial quarter of narrow streets, and wilderness starting not far beyond the suburbs. The colour is sandstone, harbour blue and that grey peak. A market fills the waterfront street every Saturday whatever the weather. A gallery built into the cliff is reached by boat and is deliberately strange.
