Burlington sits on a big lake with the Adirondacks across the water and the Green Mountains behind. Brick main streets, a waterfront that freezes at the edges, maple going scarlet in the first weeks of autumn, and a winter that means it. The colour is lake blue, brick and that hard autumn red. A lake monster is claimed regularly and taken in good humour. A pedestrian street runs through the middle with music on it most evenings.
